“It’s not how much we give but how much love we put into giving”….Mother Teresa.
Give until it gives you joy. When it does, then you know you are truly giving.
Launched in 2009, the Joy of Giving Week (also called Daan Utsav) has helped the cause of philanthropy. EURO SCHOOL NADIAD strongly believes that “there is more happiness in giving than in receiving”. The school took the initiative to spread love, joy and happiness among the less privileged and the residents of the old age home. The students, the parents, the teachers and the management were enthusiastic by taking part in the ‘joy of giving’ week.
Our Founder Mr. Kalpesh Patel and our Chairperson Mrs. Bhavish Patel, along with Principal ma’am Mrs. Pervin Watchmaker, took the initiative of spreading the JOY OF GIVING which was observed the entire week. It’s just not a week long celebration, but something which is done very regularly and from within the heart.
We visited two places to spread the “joy of Giving”. First we visited the Jalaram Old Age Home. The main motive was to sensitize the youngsters towards the issues that senior citizens face in the society. The inmates of the old age home shared their experiences with the students and offered valuable lessons of life. The wrinkled old faces broke into smiles of sheer delight when we offered them new shawls and woolen blankets and medicines, and our pupils spent quality time talking with them. The pupils sang the song which they sing daily in the assembly, “BhuloBhale Biju Badhu Maa Baap Ne Bhulsho Nahi……”.Then they joined them in their bhajans. It was indeed a moving experience. With watery eyes, the pupils bid them bye, and some even promised to come back to visit them with their parents and families. It was heartening to see many of our pupils literally cry when they saw so many senior citizens living together so harmoniously. The blessings showered by the inmates were so touching and genuine. We should be so grateful to Shri Ashwin bhai Desai and Shri Ramesh bhai Shah who are the caretakers of this old age home.
We then proceeded to the A.J. High School at Vaso, a remote village near Nadiad, where there were housed orphans and the less privileged kids. Our students played with the children there and also had a look at their school and classrooms. They interacted with the kids and enjoyed every moment there. Our students put up stage events like aerobics, dumbbells and lazim whereas the kids of that school demonstrated human pyramids and karate techniques. The gifts, toys, books, stationary items, woolens, footwears, clothes etc contributed by our dear parents, students, teachers, management and well wishers were gifted to these children who were amused and happy to receive such things. The smile on their faces brought a smile on ours too.Soon the children got so attached to our students that they wanted to come out with them! Our school donated all that was collected for the children. Our students came back with much more. They realized the value of their homes and families.
Shri Pramod bhai Gadvi Principal of that school spoke to our students about the goodness of Joy of Giving and our students were aware of the plight of the children and all this made them ponder over their own values and privileges that they enjoy.
Both the visits enabled our students to emerge from the cocoon of familiar territories and their comfort zones and their own needs to reach out to the needs of others. It made them aware of their social responsibilities which must be taken seriously. It further taught them that sharing multiplies joy and minimizes the burden of pain. By the end of the visits, the students and staff were enriched with the ‘joy of giving’ experience.
We thanked the authorities and officials of that school Shri Jatin bhai Patel Secretary Vaso Education Society (VES), Shri Uday bhai Patel Joint Secretary of VES and all the others who are doing a commendable job for such kids and for lending a helping hand in building a bright future for the less privileged ones.
May we always bring a smile on each and every child in this world. Let the spirit of the Joy of Giving burn forever.
